About Us
The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in Alameda, Calif., is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization dedicated to promoting and growing the game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953.
As one of the 17 geographic sections of the USTA, the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA NorCal engages audiences across every level of the community and brings tennis to a diverse set of players of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks and organized leagues and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants and education resources, the community is the driving force behind all tennis in Northern California.

These committees provide essential support to our staff, assisting in idea development, player engagement and the promotion of tennis across the region. Within a reasonable time after their election, the President shall appoint chairmen of the following committees* and may also appoint the members of the committees. Other committees may be appointed by the President when they believe it will serve the best interests of NorCal. All groups marked with a ** are task forces, and are not considered committees.

The Local Area Coordinator (LAC) is a pivotal volunteer role dedicated to supporting the USTA NorCal Adult Leagues program. As the primary point of contact for Adult Leagues captains and players across the section, LACs play a key role in interpreting and implementing USTA rules and Local League Area Regulations.
LACs are the go-to contact for questions, suggestions and grassroots problem-solving. They aid players in team placement, guide captains in team formation and even pave the way for new teams to hit the court. LACs work hand-in-hand with USTA NorCal staff on various league matters and are also a strong presence at the Adult Leagues championship events throughout the year.

Administrative Specialist, USTA Northern California

Why Work at the USTA?
We are a dynamic team of staff and volunteers focused on growing the sport of tennis and making it accessible to all. The USTA is committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for ALL to participate.
The Role
Coordinate, oversee, and handle administrative and event planning projects that support the Executive Director (ED). Many projects and initiatives entail ongoing administrative duties and support of the ED who works closely with NorCal Board of Directors and Committees.

Prepare, format, and coordinate documents for board meetings and other meetings. Collect multiple documents; quality control e-files, naming conventions, numbering, etc.
-
Write emails, memos, letters, staff communication, make phone calls, or complete other correspondence on behalf of ED as requested. Forward or distribute email or documents as requested.
-
Proofread and edit documents, properly format, manage quality control, ensure that all aspects of written communication are thoroughly reviewed, accurate, and error free.
-
Work with internal staff or committee members to acquire documents by due dates. Prepare and distribute regularly scheduled reports, including board packets.
-
Research and assist in coordinating events such as the NorCal Annual Meeting, volunteer recognition, and other events as requested by ED.
-
Shop, purchase, and distribute gifts and awards on behalf of the ED.
-
Act as a point of contact for event vendors (hotels, caterers, on-site planners, etc). Consider ways to enhance the event quality and attendee experience.
-
Coordinate vendor contracts and review documents for accuracy; forward to appropriate internal staff for their approvals and processing.
-
Help prepare, organize, and break down meeting rooms or other venues as needed.
-
Communicate and work closely with ED to assist in handling complex requests and inquiries from the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
-
Send and receive DocuSign documents on behalf of the ED; follow up.
-
Google distribution list administrator will serve as the primary point person for the development, management, and maintenance of all committees, board, and staff Google distribution lists.
-
Act as the point person for updating Board and committee contact information and coordinating communications as required for volunteer service with NorCal. Ensure accuracy of all lists.
-
Act as a point person for overseeing accuracy of the event volunteer database and email Google distribution lists.
-
Follow up with staff or others to acquire information needed by ED.
-
Coordinate and distribute the annual US Open Ticket allotment; handle communication and expertly navigate ongoing and last-minute changes with ticket reservations.

Coordinate aspects of ED calendar, schedule meetings, and events.
-
Develop and maintain a filing system for all board and committee meetings documents.
-
Submit and reconcile expense reports, compile research, or enter data into spreadsheets and/or databases.
-
Work quickly and efficiently to meet multiple daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
-
Complete special projects as required.
-
Find and suggest administrative efficiencies to make the office of the ED run as smoothly as possible.
Travel Obligations

Must be available for occasional travel within the NorCal section, willing to work occasional weekends for events or meetings, and ready to accommodate extra hours as necessary to meet organizational needs.

This is a full-time job (8am-5pm) and the expected range for hourly compensation for this position is $33.65 - $40.87 per hour depending on experience and reports to the Executive Director.
This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, and unique skills.

As the Director of Racquets, you are responsible for the overall racquets operations at your facility and will report directly to the GM. Working within the framework of PBI & Cliff Drysdale Management, the Director will run an operation compatible with the interests of members and their guests as well as club employees. This includes the quality of the club’s tennis services and programs along with the security and protection of the club’s assets and facilities.
COMPENSATION: salary $69,000 - $71,000, plus commission
Job Expectations:

Develop, manage and improve a racquets facility within the framework Cliff Drysdale Tennis.

Be the leader of your racket sport facility, both in on and off court activities.

You can expect to teach a minimum of 20 hours weekly. This may vary depending on season

Create a regular schedule of hours that you are on-site.

When not on-site be available on call to deal with emergencies or appoint someone else at your club or corporate to be the point person.

Your Salary includes all duties described in the job responsibilities as well as 6 corporate days to assist in corporate events or trainings, etc. Corporate days will be assigned to you by the corporate office.

Establishes and implements an accurate inventory control system and reports results accordingly.

Ensures revenue is properly recorded into POS system and reconciled daily to schedule.

Provides lessons and clinics relating to the techniques and strategies of tennis to members and guests.

On a daily basis ensures that the courts are in the best playing conditions possible.

Conducts weekly pro staff meetings.

Writes and edits all tennis-related news for the facility newsletter and website.

Develops budgets and takes appropriate action to ensure budget goals are met.

Develops a detailed annual calendar of tennis activities and coordinates with Corporate Marketing applicable promotion campaigns.

Maintains a close working relationship with the Facility General Manager/Owner and non-tennis facility staff.

Attends facility management meetings.

Provides monthly reports as required by Corporate Operations.

Inspects and maintains all physical areas for cleanliness and safety.

Inspects and maintains all equipment for physical condition and safety.

Ensures that all employees consistently comply with company’s and facility’s employee manual and with all applicable federal and state employment laws.

Maintain accurate membership database.

Ensures that payroll entry is correct for all staff.

Responsible for accurate recording of all on court programming.

Strong knowledge of tennis merchandise in order to properly give information to consumers.
